One of the next feature films I'm doing is called "Actually" and I'm super excited about it for a ton of reasons.
Over the last few months I've found an amazing community of filmmakers through the interwebs, more specifically Twitter. We've all done a lot of twittering, roundtabling, I've gotten copies of their awesome unreleased films, and, well, it's been quite inspiring. Two of the people in this growing community are Brian Spaeth and Kevin R. Wright, and they are complete and total comedic geniuses and do some amazing actoring.
I love, love, love the actors that I've been collaborating with here in ye 'ole San Francisco in my last two films, and I thought it would be super fun to do a film with Brian, Kevin, and the actors here. The good news is that I just asked everyone, they said yes, and now we're doing a film, "Actually". That's how nice all these people are, this is one of the reasons why they're awesome, and I'm really excited for everyone to meet each other and hopefully this will lead to a ton of future collaborations.
Here are the initial thoughts on where "Actually" is going to start developing:
- It's a story about two guys, Kevin and Brian, who wake up one day and find out that everyone has amnesia except them.
- I always have one big philosophical issue that each film explores and this one explores the concept of "identity" after you've lost your memory, connections, and history.
- Most likely I'm going to write just a little bit of dialogue and most of the script will be scene descriptions and story points we want to hit in each scene, and each character will have a detailed description of who and what they are to carry them through the story. We'll also write character arcs for each character. This was essentially was the process I used in "The Dabbler...".
- Eleese Longino, Jeffery Davis, Seth Burnham, Lee Kuhn, and Cheryl Fidelman from "Here. My Explosion..." and "The Dabbler, the Dreamer, and the Man Who Broke the World" are also going to be leads in the film.
Kevin and Brian (and Seth) don't live in San Francisco, so if you'd like to help out with getting them to San Francisco to shoot the film you can help out by pledging here.
If you'd like to follow along on the twitters you can follow me, Brian, and Kevin.
